Its been too long... Well hello! Its been ages since I updated this website! I'm wanting to get it re-done and designed so it looks better, so hopefully that will happen soon. So for those that are asking what I have been up to here is your update! So i've been living in NYC for almost 10 months now, I am still having a blast and have made a lot of new friends :) ..of course for the first few months work was slow. Which frustrated me a little bit, but then I was reminded that making the step to move over here to America, means that I have to start all over again. Which is true, and then I wasn't so frustrated because I realised I was actually doing a lot of work considering I just arrived! My constant income isn't coming from waiting tables(thank goodness) but from teaching and choreographing! I first started teaching at the Joffrey Ballet School, and then became apart of their faculty for the Jazz/Contemporary Intensive Workshops that they do every year. This happens here in NYC & Miami, which they hold Intensive workshops for a few weeks with a range of choreographers, including me - which concludes with a concert! I now also teach Jazz at Peridance Capezio Centre, where I hold open classes 3 times a week. for Adv, Int, & Beg. East Coast Movement - a fabulous highly skilled dance school - in New Jersey - also had me as a guest teacher/choreographer. They actually performed my routine I choreographed for them at the American Dance Awards this year, and it won - and i got a 'Young Choreographer Award' :) :) I might have to start doing bullet points because this might be a little too long hahaha ok: 'Katy Bridgewater' - is a new musical being developed(as is the title of the show) by Step Theatre Company. I was able to be apart of the development of this show where I played the receptionist as well as just an ensemble dancer/singer! It was great to do, because I got to work with those that are in the Broadway industry. Director was David Alpert who was ass. director for the revival of Guys & Dolls. Composer & Songwriter was the amazing Bobby Cronin - who I simply cannot list the work he has done, because there is too much to list - so just check him out!! http://www.bobbycronin.com/ ...and many more Broadway performers within the cast! :) 'Dancing with the Teachers' - I was asked by TV Producer David Scott - who is the Producer for 'The People's Court' - to be a judge at this event/show he created. The show was apart of the Irvington Education Foundation, and it was a take on dancing with the stars, except with teachers of schools! really professionally done! So yeah i got to be a judge alongside the owner of the famous Colony Records store, in Times Square, Richard Turk! as well as one of the more noted american ballerinas of the 20th century, DARCI KISTLER - who is married to New York City Ballet's balletmaster-in-chief PETER MARTINS! So that was an honor!!! Its a show that i know David Scott is going to try one day to bring to TV! which will be fun! fingers crossed! 'Charlie Ward Showcase' - This performance was fun. Charlie Ward is a new working artist here in NYC and I was 1 of 4 dancers picked for the showcase. The choreographer was Emmy Award Nominee Brian Thomas - who has choreographed for Michael Jackson, Mary J Blige, Mya, Usher and many many more! So that was amazing to work with someone so credited and skilled! 'Buick/Broadway Cares Commercial' - This was a commercial shot right in the middle of Times Square. There were about 100 dancers including myself and we were the pre-opening to 'Broadway on Broadway' - which is a performance that happens every year where Broadway musicals showcase segments from their show! That again was a lot of fun! :) 'Access Broadway Event' - I am actually heading to Michigan tomorrow morning to adjudicate the dance event that is happening out their. As well as conducting some workshops!! 'Spring Gala - Kennedy Center' - This performance I am very excited about - next week I start rehearsals for the Spring Gala that is happening at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC - choreographed by Josh Prince(choreographer of Shrek the musical). I am very excited because of who the person is that is Hosting the event! read the blurb down below about it: 'On Sunday, May 2, 2010 the Kennedy Center will present the Spring Gala in celebration of its Founding Chairman, Roger L. Stevens. This year marks what would be the 100th birthday of a remarkable visionary, who in addition to the Kennedy Center, founded the National Endowment for the Arts and produced over 250 Broadway productions. The Gala, hosted by LIZA MINNELLI, will feature performances and appearances by Tony Award–winning actress Jane Alexander, members of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Tony Award–winning actress Elizabeth Ashley, opera singer Harolyn Blackwell, Broadway star Raúl Esparza, opera singer Elmore James, Emmy Award–winning actress Judith Light, Andrea McArdle (the originator of the beloved title role in Annie), the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and surprise guests. The evening will pay tribute to some of the 250 plays and musicals Stevens produced during his career, including Annie, Showboat, West Side Story, Les Misérables, and many more.' Also lastly, in the 2nd month that I moved here to NYC, I auditioned for Wicked on Broadway. It came down to me in the audition - which was very exciting - and they said they think I'm perfect for the show, and would love me to be apart of it....but then came the '?' ...they said but we have to get back to you because the Union 'Actor's Equity' (who is the union for broadway shows) might have a problem with it because you don't have a Green Card....and it turned out that was true, so I couldn't do the show!!!!! ...I'm on an O-1 Visa which is titled 'Alien of Extraordinary Ability' -which is a work visa that allow's me to work here! But the only thing I can't do is BROADWAY! which sucks since its the only thing I want to do hahaha ....so that's a bit of an obstacle but I'm currently applying for my Green Card, so hopefully all will be fine soon! Well thats my update, i've done many other work things here and there, but I just thought I would share with you the significant ones! Hope everyone is well, and is enjoying 2010!!! much love Jack. :)
